ZyLAB have joined the Electronic Discovery Reference Model to help encourage best practice throughout the industry.

ZyLAB, the innovative developer of Information Access Solutions, has announced it has joined the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project to share best practices for managing the e-discovery processes, from the initial management of electronically stored information all the way to the ultimate presentation of that information.  Since the group’s inception in 2005, more than 300 people from over 125 organizations have been involved. In the last year, the major industry analyst firms have adopted the EDRM model.

“EDRM focuses on reducing the cost and complexity of e-discovery through the development of standards such as EDRM XML,” said George J. Socha, Jr., Esq., Socha Consulting LLC.  “As more vendors adopt the XML standard in their products and more end-users demand XML standard compliance, organizations that are not adopting and adhering to widely-accepted industry standards may be left behind.  Software providers like ZyLAB are uniquely positioned to help frame EDRM XML, EDRM Metrics and similar standards, see they are properly developed, ensure they get effectively deployed, and promote their sound usage.”

ZyLAB’s ZyIMAGE e-Discovery suite offers organizations an integrated e-discovery management solution that captures, investigates, structures and discloses information in a simple, secure and efficient manner.  The solution is built on a stable XML data repository and provides users with investigative tools to search, retrieve and archive vital information through a standard Internet browser. All unstructured data is stored for as long as it's needed, and integrated functionalities enable users to capture and add new data, analyze and collaborate on the data, redact specific pieces of information (if required), and retrieve and share files.  Because of its modular structure, ZyIMAGE is completely scalable and therefore provides a solution to address organizational requirements at both departmental and enterprise-wide levels.

Through the group’s creation of the EDRM model, which outlines the key processes and steps involved with e-discovery, to its development of an XML standard so that e-discovery products can interoperate, EDRM has helped e-discovery consumers and providers reduce the cost, time and manual work associated with e-discovery.  The EDRM Project was launched to address the lack of standards and guidelines in the electronic discovery market. The completed reference model provides a common, flexible and extensible framework for the development, selection, evaluation and use of electronic discovery products and services. Information about EDRM is available at http://www.edrm.net.

“ZyLAB has always been a great promoter of open standards such as XML and other non-proprietary storage formats,” said Dr Johannes C. Scholtes, President of ZyLAB North America LLC.  “By joining the EDRM community we can continue to promote such standards in a larger context. By doing so, all our current and future customers will benefit from these industry initiatives.”
