Strata Tiles Newsletter

24 April 2008

Welcome to the third Strata Tiles Newsletter. 2008 has already turned into our most exciting year so far with the opening of our Central London showroom- Studio 62.

At Strata we are continually committed to meeting the needs and challenges of our clients head on, and this year we are involved with a number of exciting projects for some very high profile clients across the UK and beyond. We constantly strive to introduce the very latest innovations to our catalogue, while remaining loyal to the classic designs and styles on which we have built our company.

Strata News:

Studio 62
The three directors, Trevor Horsley, Paul Wallis and Jonathan Wiles, had a clear idea of the shape they wanted the London showroom to take: Naturally it had to display the vast range of tiles in a great location, but also needed to provide somewhere for people to meet, network and discuss projects and individual requirements.

We now have a central location to hold social events, CPD seminars and press functions. Reacting to the ever changing needs of the design industry, Studio 62 is a point of inspiration for designers and architects, with meeting areas, workspace and internet connection. Set on two floors, Studio 62 enables a new level of interaction between client and supplier. We’re open Monday to Friday for you to stop by, either by appointment or just walk in.

Case Study
Forman & Son – Fish Smokery, London
The Forman & Son Salmon Smokery is the oldest fish smokery in Britain, having just celebrated its centenary. Formans smoke a range of home-caught fish destined for luxury dishes and top end market retailers. Recently the factory was forced to relocate as their existing site was situated on the site designated for the 2012 Olympic Village. The new site, adjacent to the planned Olympic
Stadium building, comprises a salmon smoking, fish processing, factory shop, visitor centre and restaurant.

Strata Sicadur was specified for the floors due to its permanent anti-slip resistance and easy to clean quality. Sicadur is the body of normal fully vitrified stoneware ceramic and is primarily constructed of fused hard elements of quartz and feldspar.

Product update: Palm Panels
The latest addition to the Strata range is unlike anything we have featured before. The Palm Panel Collection combines texture, warmth, beauty and nature in totally original and stunning designs. Originating from the coconut shell, these handmade panels are produced from a completely biodegradable and renewable resource.

Palm Panels are available in an extensive range of colours and styles in three-dimensional and smooth finishes providing endless opportunities to create visionary projects that demand a strong aesthetic statement.

The natural grain of the coconut tree and shell of the fruit provide an exciting alternative where warmth and originality is desired. Surprisingly durable, each tile is hand crafted using material which would otherwise be regarded as waste, representing Strata’s environmentally responsible approach.

The full Palm range is displayed at Studio 62.

And finally…..
Strata supply tiles for award winning washrooms!

The toilets, at the Eastgate Centre in Basildon, won the five star award for 'Loo of the Year' from the British Toilets Association for a retail shopping centre. We supplied Strata Tiles Hydrotect wall tiles from the Plural 2 range, which come in a variety of colours. The tiles have a surface coating that breaks down bacteria, fungi, and germs, creating a permanent barrier
which helps to prevent the development of new pathogens. The antibacterial properties are significant: germs, bacteria and fungi are decomposed and are simply washed away. The risk of infections spreading is reduced, accounting for their growing popularity in medical and leisure facilities. The washrooms, designed by Haskoll Architects, are part of a wider refurbishment of the Eastgate Centre.
