Local Firm Reels in Success

10 December 2013

A local galvanizing company is celebrating a partnership which has seen it play a part in the construction of a unique shelter on behalf on an award-winning producer of Scottish salmon.

Wednesfield-based Edward Howell Galvanizers, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has partnered with the UK’s leading specialist cold folding company, Oldbury-based Metsec, to provide its hot-dip galvanizing service to 7.5 tonnes of lattice beams and girders, used to form part of a mono-pitched roof for the Scottish Salmon Company.

Doug Jordan at Metsec, explained: “This was a fantastic project to work on, as the beams have been used to develop a distinctive style roof which ensure that the loading area at the Scottish Salmon Company is covered, protecting the fresh fish from all types of weather. We call upon Edward Howell Galvanizers on a regular basis, as the majority of our products and steel require protection against corrosion, and especially in this project as the structure is situated in a harsh marine environment.”

The first set of beams used within the project, which measured at 1.25m deep and 18m long, were used to form part of the one-piece sloping roof, and were supplied in two sections for transportation and assembly on site.

Jim Lindsay, Sales Manager at Edward Howell Galvanizers, added: “We are very pleased to be involved in the production of the new roof for such a renowned company that produces some of the best quality salmon to people all over the UK, as well as overseas, and are looking forward to working alongside Metsec on future exciting projects.”

Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years.  With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, the firm offers a truly national galvanizing service.
