Local partnership celebrates Shallot Sculpture

A local galvanizing firm has provided its specialist services to a renowned blacksmith in the creation of an eye-catching sculpture on the River Witham.
Humber Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has provided its hot-dip galvanizing service to Sleaford-based Anwick Forge’s sculpture, The Lady of Shalott, a pair of giant sheaves of barley that form a staggered arch over the River Witham, east of Lincoln.The Lady of Shalott sculpture, whose name originated from the famous poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson, stands at 4.5 metres tall and is created from forged and fabricated mild steel with hollow elements throughout. The sculpture is situated on the River Witham’s new N1 cycle track which runs from Lincoln to Boston, and was commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council working in collaboration with Sustrans.
Tony Linsley, Sales Manager at Humber Galvanizing, explained: “This was a fantastic project to work on especially as it plays out such a great poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson. Anwick Forge always produce eye-catching pieces of art, and this is no exception - I am sure it will provide the walkers and cyclists much joy for many years to come.
Fran Mackereth of Anwick Forge, said: “The steel needed to be coated in molten zinc so that it achieved a contemporary appearance, as well as providing excellent long-term corrosion resistance due to its outdoor position.
