Emergency cover at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital provided by Tarkett

29 October 2009

The brand new extension to the hospital, the A&E department, was completed with over 1200m² of Tarketts' Linoleum xf flooring.

Building contractors PJ Hegarty constructed the extension over 4 levels covering approximately 5000m2 with the A&E department on the Ground Floor and two levels of in-patient wards above. Tarketts' Linoleum xf was installed by Floor Style throughout the new Emergency Department.

John Carroll of the Health Services Executive explained;

“We wanted a hard wearing, good quality flooring product for the new facility and, having worked with Tarkett in the past, I knew their products would meet our needs. They are flexible, yet durable and very easy to install, which is essential for healthcare projects where timing is often crucial.”

Tarketts' Floorcraft Service also added an extra dimension to the new flooring at the Emergency Department. A&E departments can be a scary place for children, so a separate waiting area was created for them complete with a mix of bright and cheery Floorcraft designs.

Tarkett has been manufacturing linoleum flooring for over 100 years using natural, renewable raw materials like linseed oil, resin, jute, wood and cork flour. The new xf surface treatment protects the linoleum by providing superior resistance to abrasion and chemicals, as well as offering easier cleaning and maintenance.  Savings of up to 30% on maintenance costs can be achieved with Linoleum xf, an attractive benefit for public buildings. Alongside this is an important environmental benefit, with more than 50% reduction in consumption of water, energy and detergents needed for cleaning.

Creating interior design solutions for commercial areas means balancing a lot of practical needs and demands, but the aesthetic and emotional values should be equally important. Tarkett created the Linoleum xf design toolbox to provide inspiration and assistance in the design process. The toolbox includes a dynamic and vibrant colour range of 68 references with four levels of pattern expression, from plain and soft to medium marbling and multicolour. The Linoleum xf design collection is inspired by todays architectural trends, ensuring a versatile and contemporary design approach.
