Miele launch Octoplus washer-extractor & dryer

25 January 2010

The new compact machines are a first for Miele and come with customisable technology.

Miele Professional continues the advancement of laundry care technology with the addition of the new 8kg load capacity machine to its range of compact commercial laundry machines. The Miele Octoplus range offers a larger load capacity while continuing to deliver the excellence in care, stain removal, convenience, energy and cost efficiency for which Miele is known.

Customisable controls that work to perfection
The Octoplus washer-extractor (PW6080) and tumble dryer (PT7186) offer more than 70 washing and 40 drying programmes. These can be packaged into bespoke programmes upon installation to suit the specific needs of business’ laundry care requirements. Programme options not activated immediately can be added later as business demands evolve, and likewise, programmes can be deactivated if they are no longer needed.

Common packages include: ‘Hotels’ which groups programmes for kitchen and table linen, bed linen and curtains; 'Bedding' including programmes for pillows, down and synthetic duvets, and natural fibre blankets; ‘Beauty Salon/Health Spas’, which has special programmes for towels and capes; 'Bakers/Butchers', including settings to tackle flour and grease and fat stains; and 'Fire brigades' includes programmes for protective apparel and breathing masks.

The intelligent machines also offer ‘Flexplus’ - a series of five customised wash and drying programmes which can be put together from pre-defined options to suit individual needs. To ensure ease of use within the business setting controls can be geared to the skill levels of staff, ranging from a simple choice of four programmes through to more sophisticated settings picked using a rotary selector for advanced use. In addition, all machines are suitable for coin-operation.

Optimum results, operational efficiency
Both the Octoplus washer-extractor and tumble dryer feature Miele's patented honeycomb drum to provide cutting-edge gentle laundry care. In the washer-extractor, this creates a thin film of water to gently cushion fabrics for optimum care, and in the tumble dryer, tiny air pockets in the hexagonal sections between laundry and drum care for fabrics in a similar manner.

Octoplus machines are Miele’s most economical commercial laundry machines to date. The tumble dryer features patented electronic PerfectDry moisture-sensing technology to determine when items are at a specific drying stage. This enables spot-on drying results, protects against overdrying and helps save energy. The washer-extractor uses 30 per cent less water and 16 per cent less electricity on a standard “60°C Cottons” programme than its predecessor, reducing operational costs as well as helping businesses reduce their environmental impact.

Both the washing machine and tumble dryer offer fast programmes, the washing machine has a spin speed of 1300rpm in the final cycle meaning residual moisture levels of less than 50 per cent and short drying times. The washing-extractor is also extremely quiet in operation thanks to multi-stage imbalance monitoring in the spin cycle and a suds container suspended on four springs, plus four shock absorbers.

Maintenance is also made easier with Octoplus machines. Washer-extractors feature AutoClean technology to prevent detergent build-up for better maintenance, and the new large-surface filter on the tumble dryer is more than 2.5 times bigger meaning the machine needs cleaning less often.

The new series consists of electrically heated washer-extractors with a dump valve or drain pump and a tumble dryer. The latter was awarded the iF design award 2009 – a coveted worldwide endorsement of design excellence - before it even launched.
