Wheelabrator Group Measures Up to Large Scale Challenge

12 November 2007

Market leading surface preparation experts Wheelabrator Group has proved size does matter after manufacturing one of its largest ever wheel blast machines for an excavation equipment customer.

The mammoth Spencer Tilghman monorail machine, featuring 24 centrifugal blast wheels, will be used to descale large fabrications prior to painting. These components will form part of tracked excavators, wheeled loaders and compaction equipment.

John Halloran, export sales manager at Wheelabrator Group, said: “Our team of engineers worked closely with the customer to custom-design the machine to meet the exacting requirements of their heavy products division.

“The fabrications being manufactured are very large and, coupled with the complexity of their design, a thorough descaling process was required to clean the surface area. Fitting 24 centrifugal wheels provides extensive coverage in one easy process, with the components entering the machine on an overhead monorail conveyor and exiting ready for painting.

“We have a lot of experience in designing machines to accommodate the individual needs of our customers and pride ourselves in offering this flexibility.”

Monorail wheelblast machines typically use between two and four centrifugal blast wheels.

Wheelabrator Group owns, designs, manufactures and provides wheelblast, airblast and vibratory mass finishing equipment for surface preparation and cleaning, and serves a variety of sectors, including the aerospace and automotive industries.
