Compact delivers sterling results for Walworth Academy

More than 1,000 metres of Marshall-Tufflex’s ‘tried and tested’ Compact 2 PVC-U cable management system has been installed in the classrooms and corridors of a prestigious new academy school in South East London. Constructed by Balfour Beatty as part of the Southwark Schools for the Future programme, the new Walworth Academy replaces two former academy buildings which were split across two separate sites. Some 1,140 pupils are now housed under one roof in a spacious state-of-the-art, light-filled, building designed by Building Design Partnership (BDP). Compact 2 is a power and data management system ideal for where installation space is an issue. It is well proven in education applications and is also a product favoured by Briggs and Forrester, electrical project engineer for the new Walworth Academy. “We’ve used it before, we like the profile and we thought it would be ideal for carrying power services and IT data throughout the new school,” said Stephen Noll of Briggs and Forrester, about the selection of Compact 2 for the Academy. “The two compartment profile is particularly good for IT data and it also scores well on price and availability. We therefore put it forward for the necessary technical submittal processes required by the builder and the client. Needless to say it passed and more 1,000 metres of dado height trunking has gone in very well.” Engineering consultant for the project was Gifford. Peter Prentice of Gifford comments: “We have found Marshall Tufflex plastic trunking to be a robust, versatile and convenient power and data containment solution for use in both offices and educational spaces equally. The product has proved popular with architects and clients alike. From a design perspective, Compact 2 provides ample volume and separation while maintaining a slender, discreet profile. The installation at Walworth Academy has further underpinned our confidence in the product and brand.” Electrical wholesaler supplying Compact trunking for the project was Edmundson Electrical of Twickenham. Compact 2 skirting and dado level trunking has a built-up profile of 130mm x 50mm. The two individual compartments can be further sub-divided as required. Marshall-Tufflex is especially well placed to serve the education sector given that it has more than 30 years experience of doing just that. It has an extensive portfolio of products and is continually developing new technologies that cater for the changing needs of the sector. This includes PVC-U, aluminium and steel trunking, curved and antimicrobial cable management systems and hi-speed plug and play power connection systems as well as bespoke solutions. Marshall-Tufflex’s relevant products for the education sector are detailed in its ‘Trunking for Education Establishments’ brochure.
