Scottish local authorities award Stannah £6M+ groundbreaking contract

14 February 2011

17 January 2011: World leading stairlift manufacturer Stannah has broken another record after being awarded its largest ever contract to supply six local authorities in Scotland.

Worth more than £2 million per year, the three-year contract covers the supply and installation, maintenance, removal and refurbishment of stairlifts, step lifts and through-the-floor lifts.   It will see Stannah deliver over 800 lifts per year to residents in Glasgow, East and West Dunbartonshire, South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

The contract will also see the local authorities take advantage of Stannah’s re-use proposition – enabling tax payers to access a greater range of reconditioned lifts at a fraction of the cost of purchasing them new.

Stannah is a leading stairlift provider in Scotland and has supplied local authorities in Scotland for over 30 years.  This new agreement is the largest single contract in its history to be awarded through a framework agreement.

The contract was awarded by Cordia (Services) LLP, a Glasgow-based organisation which provides facilities management and care services for local government and large public sector organisations.  It will be administered by Cordia’sEquipu partnership, which specialises in delivering elderly care in Scotland.  By bringing the six local authorities together, Equipu will benefit from a smoother and simpler management process, using a local workforce and ensuring a joined-up and consistent approach to supporting users across the greater Glasgow area.

Stannah’s re-use scheme was introduced to help local authority customers get the most value from their budgets – driving cost and environmental efficiencies.  Today, it is provided to 130 local authorities nationwide, saving millions of pounds by enabling new customers to re-use stairlifts. Under the Cordia contract, Stannah will remove stairlifts that are no longer required, refurbish them where necessary and then reinstall them in a new location within any of the six local authorities. The result is greater pooling of resources, lowered overheads and greater access to a range of lifts to help meet demand more quickly.

This work will be managed and carried out by Stannah in Glasgow who are part of the Group’s network delivering local lift services, nationwide. Branch Manager Graham Barr is delighted with the addition to his growing portfolio within Scotland.

‘Our engineers look after all types of lifts, domestic and commercial, our own brand and those from other manufacturers. We look forward to fulfilling this work for Cordia and providing reliable and friendly service to all their clients within the six local authorities. ‘

Patrick Stannah, Group Director of StannahStairlifts, commented “It is fantastic to have been awarded this landmark contract, which demonstrates the benefits of local authorities coming together to share efficiencies and improve a service for taxpayers.  As budgets are squeezed it is vital that public sector suppliers identify innovative solutions to combat challenges; with the re-use scheme we hope that more people across Scotland will benefit from the independence and improved quality of life enabled by a StannahStairlift.”

He continued: “We are particularly pleased that we were awarded the contract based primarily on our provision of high quality, safe and durable lifts.  In the current climate it is easy for a local authority to opt for the cheapest supplier on the market – but through a multi-customer framework agreement like this, cost efficiencies can be found without cutting quality.”

Ryan O’Neill, Purchasing Executive at Cordia, added: “We are delighted to be working with Stannah. I am sure that the six participating local authorities will benefit greatly from the company’s experience and expertise.”
