Ultracrete to reduce cost of roadwork congestion charge

08 September 2011

According to a recent BBC report, civil engineering and utility companies could land themselves with hefty charges for imposing roadworks on busy highways if the Governments' lane rental scheme gets the go ahead.

Ministers are proposing that companies carrying out roadworks during peak times, should pay councils to rent the road space, therefore acting as an incentive to schedule works during quieter periods.

With a proposal of up to £2,500 'lane rental' a day, the less time the works take to carry out, the less has to be paid. Currently, in addition to public disruption, roadwork congestion costs the economy an estimated £4bn a year.

Poor quality or hasty reinstatements are a big issue, weakening highway structures and requiring further maintenance.

To help reduce costs for contractors carrying out manhole repair or replacement, whether the scheme gets the go ahead or not, Ultracrete, part of the Instarmac Group have the answer with their BBA/HAPAS Approved Manhole Reinstatement System offering a minimum service life of 5 years, with no risk of split liability.

The system includes bedding mortars, backfill concrete, bitumen sealants and Instant Road Repair cold lay asphalt concrete.

All components offer excellent workability and, where appropriate, impressive tensile and compressive strength. The entire reinstatement system means that traffic can get moving again within the hour.

Ultracretes' BBA/HAPAS Approved Manhole System will help to control costs. The system greatly reduces the time needed for repair and reinstatements compared to other conventional methods and the high quality materials vastly improve the service life.
