Dewatering and Thickening of Municipal Sewage Sludge

Euroby have nearly 30 years of experience in dewatering and thickening sewage slurry. We understand the special requirements of sewage treatment plants and the water industry. As a result, we ensure our suppliers continue to develop their equipment and machinery to ensure efficiency and excellent results.

For dewatering and thickening sewage slurry, it is necessary for special properties of the bowl, gear unit and control system to be guaranteed. This is the only way to achieve maximum dewatering and thickening of the sewage slurry.

Dewatering Sewage Sludge

Irrespective of whether the sludge will be transported, recycled, taken to landfill or incinerated after dewatering, it is decisive for it to be as dry as possible. Other important factors include economical polymer, energy and water consumption as well as a low requirement for spare parts. The optimum solution for this is the decanter for dewatering sewage slurry. The decanter for throughflows from 10 to 120 m³/h offers decisive advantages compared to other units.

Efficient Dewatering of Waterworks/Potable/Drinking Water Sludge

This sludge is formed during the cleaning and treatment of drinking water. Disposing of the sediment sludge can result in significant transportation and disposal costs.

These costs can be reduced to a minimum using decanter or filter press technology – entirely in keeping with our motto ‘Engineered For Your Success’.

Optimal Dewatering of Waterworks Sludge

The dry substance value (DS) of the sludge sediment is usually between 1% and 4% DS before dewatering.

The decanter regulates the differential speed of the drum and automatically adjusts it to every change in the product properties of the sludge. This enables the decanter to maintain a consistently high cake DS value.

Maximum separation/dewatering of the sludge, without operating personnel intervention, reduces the resulting cake volume requiring removal to the minimum.

The result is lower relevant costs and affect on the environment month after month.

Thickening Sewage Sludge

Thickening sewage slurry means concentrating surplus slurry produced in the biological stages from 5 to 10 g/l total dry solids to 5 to 8%, before it is pumped into the digestion tower. The slurry volume is reduced by 90 to 95% in this process.

The decanter has been designed for this purpose. It is characterised by its high performance, reliability and efficiency. The latest studies into fixed costs (capital and personnel) and variable costs (electricity, water and polymer consumption as well as spare parts) prove that the decanter offers decisive advantages compared to other thickening units.

Innovative Sewage Sludge Thickening with Starch Polymer

For Euroby, innovation is the key to the success of our customers and the driver for many of our actions.

Our suppliers have developed an innovative method for thickening sewage sludge based on starch polymers. With this method, we are reacting to a change in fertilizer regulations concerning the use of polymers in the use of sewage sludge on agricultural land. As of 2017, polymers may only be used if the sludge and the individual components can decompose by at least 20% within two years. Synthetic polymers currently fail to meet those requirements. One alternative could be polymers based on starch.
