RFID – This technology is more commonly known in the form of key cards and key fobs. This type of access control system uses a scanner to identify the authorised key card and fob data via radio frequencies. Each person is given a card or fob for access, which itself can be tracked via usage. However, this also relies on people to keep the item on their persons at all times and not lose it. Replacements can be costly.

ANPR – Great for sites such as gated communities or employee car parks, this access control gate system relies on number plate recognition to automatically control entry and exit access. This solution works well in vehicle-heavy traffic areas. However, it has its cons in the form of pedestrian access limitations and spontaneous access for guests.
