Job Description
You will design and develop electronics hardware, embedded firmware and occasionally computer software to deliver HVAC and lighting controls. Primarily working independently you will be responsible for all aspects of a product development cycle; from interpreting a specification to develop hardware and software prototypes through to testing and finally release of a completed product to production.
Some or all of the following activities take place in each project:
Hardware design
- Sensor systems
- Microcontrollers
- Power switching
- Power supplies
- Signal conditioning
- Schematic and PCB layout
- Product enclosures
- EMC and Safety standards
Software design
- Embedded C Programming
- Microcontroller ASM
- Computer programming (C, C#, Objective-C, PHP, JAVA)
Other
- Design, test and produce prototypes for new products
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of hardware and software at clients’ sites
- Provide technical assistance and advice to existing clients
Candidate Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Degree in Electronic Engineering (BEng (Hons), MEng (Hons), or similar) – minimum 2.1 classification
- 2 years+ of engineering experience
Candidate Skills Requirements
- Good ‘C’ programming skills for embedded systems
- Good working knowledge of analogue and digital circuit design
- Knowledge of European standards for EMC, EMI and Safety
- Knowledge of embedded systems and microcontrollers
- Good problem solving skills
- Schematic capture and PCB layout experience
- Experience using a version control system
- Experience writing technical documentation
- Proficient in multiple operating systems for both technical and general applications
- Good proficiency in soldering PCBs including fine-pitch SMT components
- Knowledge of electronic manufacturing and product testing techniques, to ensure the most effective production implementation of designs
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, including effective organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work under time-scale pressure to get new products out on time while maintaining quality output
- Aptitude to learn new skills and concepts quickly
- Ability to communicate complex ideas quickly and clearly to participate in technical discussions
- Motivation to work unsupervised as well as part of a team
- Motivated to manage and drive own development
- A keen eye for detail and perfection
- Quality control and compliance testing
