Ultrascape: urban regeneration through the decades

19 July 2012

The UK’s 8th largest city, Coventry, has seen several public realm projects over the past decade completed using Ultrascape materials.

Ultrascape have built a strong working relationship with Coventry City Council over the past 10 years+, which has resulted in their materials being the preferred choice for the city’s major regeneration paving projects.

The City of Coventry stadium will host twelve London 2012 football matches; consequently as an Olympic city it has received funding from the European Commission for much needed regeneration work.  Station Street, Bull Yard and Broadgate Square have undergone improvements to increase and update pedestrian areas, and repave the bus route that runs through these locations.

The improvements were completed using Pro-Bed HS bedding mortar, Pro-Prime slurry primer and Flowpoint flowable grout.  The three products make up Ultrascape’s renowned mortar paving system, and are proven to be BS 7533 compliant under UKAS testing methods.  Seal & Stop, sand stabiliser and surface sealant, is also being used on the flexible paving constructions required by this public realm scheme.  The work has finished well in advance of the start of the games, ready for the city’s many extra visitors.

Some 10 years ago the renowned Coventry Transport Museum was being refurbished and expanded.  The project included an outside forecourt, complete with overhead bridge and floor spot lights.  The forecourt was constructed with Pro-Bed HS and Flowpoint.  It is still a functional area today that is used to display some of the museum’s many classic cars and is also used as a location for special events – when the weather permits at least!

Ultrascape’s long-standing relationship with Coventry City Council  resulted in the city being one of the first to use our bulk mortar silos.  Introduced over 3 years ago, the silos provide perfect transportation and storage for 30 tonnes of bedding mortar at a time, ideal for large public realm projects.  Following a BS 7533 specification and CPD training given by the Ultrascape team, bulk Pro-Bed HS, Pro-Prime and Flowpoint were all  used on Ironmonger Row and Ironmonger Square in the heart of the city centre.

Ultrascape is proud to be part of these distinctive projects and others, including one at Coventry Cathedral as they have, and will, dramatically improve and modernise the city for inhabitants and visitors.
