23 May 2008

FORK RENT ORDER 2000 JCB TELEHANDLERS

The largest deal ever struck for JCB Loadalls has been agreed between JCB and Ipswich based Fork Rent plc, one of the UK’s biggest self-drive plant hire firms. Demonstrating their faith in the UK construction market, Fork Rent has placed the order for a staggering 2000 JCB high spec, market leading telescopic handlers. Supplied over three years through dealer Watling JCB the deal spans the range from the compact 520-40’s through to the 17 metre 540-170. It includes a number of the new HiViz models which were recently shown at the Conexpo show in Las Vegas. The order consolidates Fork Rent’s position of supplying the newest and most innovative products on the market to customers all over the UK. This strategy has seen the business evolve from a regional player established 40 years ago to a major player in the nationwide market. Set up by the late Percy Nicholls, Fork Rent is now run by his son Guy and daughter Trudi. Their fleet of 1400 vehicles includes JCB backhoe loaders and telescopic handlers as well as a full range of other construction equipment from mini diggers through to 25 tonne excavators, dumpers, access equipment and self erecting tower cranes. Their aim is to provide a complete solution for customers. Fork Rent’s Managing Director, Guy Nicholls, said “We are an ambitious company and we pride ourselves on delivering the best customer service in the business and offering higher specification machines than our competitors. All our cab machines, for instance, benefit from air-conditioning, while all our JCB 12m + telescopic handlers have turbo engines and feature the innovative sway control, side-shift and hydraulic fork positioning. This new order ensures our fleet is the youngest and most modern on the market and ensures that we stick to our policy of replacing plant every 12-14 months. “By working with Watling JCB and the JCB dealer network, we know that we have the best service back-up in the business and this is critical to us in ensuring our fleet is up and running and available for hire 24/7. ” Watling JCB is the second largest JCB dealer in the UK. Managing Director, Richard Telfer, is naturally delighted to have sealed the order. Richard said: “This is the biggest single order in Watling JCB’s history and underlines the shared aim of our two businesses – to provide the best and most innovative machines on the market, as well as the best customer service. “The new HiViz Loadalls are a case in point. The clear benefits these machines will bring to Fork Rent’s customers are of enormous importance to Trudi and Guy Nicholls, who clearly seek the safest and most comfortable machines for their customers”. JCB has been manufacturing Loadalls since 1977 and the low boom 535-125 and 535-140 Hi-Viz machines are the latest additions to the range. With excellent visibility, manoeuvrability and performance features they are proving a good match to construction sites where space is becoming more confined due to greater housing densities.
