Marshall-Tufflex aids BBC in switch from analogue to digital
The BBC was so impressed with Marshall-Tufflex‘s role in Broadcasting House going digital that it has called upon the cable management specialist to supply further transmission centres with power distribution units based on the successful original design.
With continuity across BBC sites also desirable, Marshall-Tufflex’s ability to customise the system that supplies all physical power feeds to the control rooms was of great advantage. Working with Interserve Engineering Services, Marshall-Tufflex’s Specials Department has adapted the system for the most recent refurbishments at Television Centre, White City and the BBC’s Woodnorton Training Centre, Evesham, as the sites prepare for UK TV’s switch to digital.
Driven by rigid timescales and the need for a fast turn around on site, Interserve took advantage of Marshall-Tufflex’s complete manufacture and pre-wiring capability, allowing products to be delivered ready to attach to the mains. The over-head power distribution system is constructed from a sleek combination of Marshall-Tufflex’s PVC-U Maxi-trunking and Mono 10 with specialised Cee-Norm sockets. The complexity of both sites has necessitated the building of hundreds of units of varying shapes and sizes, some as much as six metres long.
The requirement for clean earthing and a large number of specialist sockets and cables in relatively short spaces have also been addressed by the cable management solution.
A spokesman for Interserve’s Engineering Team at the BBC White City installation, which was led by Jon Sumner, commented: “We met what was a complex, and very quick, programme on time. The standard of Marshall-Tufflex’s pre-manufactured units was good and helped us to reach timescales when under pressure.” Marshall-Tufflex offers a complete solution service for all cable management requirements. Flexible in its levels of support, the Specials Department provides creative designs that combine functionality, strength and safety. Assemblies can be pre-wired and deliveries arranged on a ‘just in time’ basis.
