Formula One Driver Likes his Gadgets

22 August 2008

European manufacturer of garage doors, operators and accessories, Hörmann, have a new fan for their latest gadget range, former F1 racing car driver Mark Blundell.

The motor sport ace is partial to a bit of high-tech gadgetry, as you would expect from someone who has raced some of the most technologically advanced driving machines in the world, and Hörmann’s hand transmitters easily fit this tag by bringing precision engineering, elegance and cutting edge technology to garage door operation.

Mark Blundell is especially keen on the HSD-2 hand transmitter: “I have not seen anything else like it on the market and I had to have one. With other manufacturers you often get some sort of plastic remote that is too bulky to attach to you car keys and carry around with you.

“The HSD-2 is compact, looks great and is designed to act as the actual key ring that you attach you car keys to and it is this multi-functional aspect that is most appealing.”

As well as the HSD-2, Mark has opted for an HSZ transmitter which has been specially designed to fit into the cigarette lighter of your car. The HSZ’s discreet yet attractive design is the perfect, inexpensive alternative to a remote control system that would otherwise need to be integrated into your car.

One of the added benefits of this range of handsets is that you don’t have to have Hörmann operators installed. Hörmann UK was able to supply receivers and fit them to Mark’s existing gate systems, which originally worked on a different frequency. This means his new handsets can now operate both his garage doors and his gates.

David Newcombe, Hörmann UK Sales Director, Domestic Division and Marketing Manager, explains just why this range of hand transmitters is getting a lot of attention, even from high profile individuals.

“This collection covers all the bases in terms of remote garage door operation. From the more simple mini and micro transmitters to the flagship HSD-2, this range is unrivalled in terms of innovation, design and security.

“The HSD-2 in particular is a favourite amongst those customers looking for a practical solution that also gets heads turning when you put your car keys on the table. A market leader in terms of design and functionality, the Hörmann HSD 2 hand transmitter is available in an aluminium or glossy chrome finish and was awarded the prestigious red dot design award for 2007.”

Mark Blundell’s racing career included no less than 61 F1 starts while driving for teams Brabham-Yamaha, Ligier-Renault, Tyrell-Yamaha and McLaren-Mercedes. Having reached, and conquered, the highest levels of numerous motor racing classes, Mark also competed in the prestigious Le Mans six times, securing an outstanding win in 1992.
