School Playground Transformed by former Headteacher's Legacy

21 November 2013

Pupils at Gainsborough Parish Church CE Aided Primary School in Gainsborough are enjoying their brand new playground, designed and installed by Sovereign Play Equipment and funded by the legacy of a former head teacher.

The  outdated play area at Gainsborough Primary has been transformed thanks to the generosity of Mr Brian Jenkins, who was head teacher at the school during the 1950s and sadly died two years ago, leaving behind money for the school.

Commenting on the legacy Mrs Fulthorpe, the current Head Teacher, said; “The children decided to use the money left by Mr Jenkins on a new playground; they wanted something exciting with equipment that would give them a challenge and encourage imaginative play, their aim has certainly been fulfilled.”

Prior to Sovereign’s involvement there was little seating and sparse grassy areas. Now parts of the playground have been covered by artificial grass which has not only made it more attractive but has enabled the children to play in the area throughout the school year.

Other installations include a play ship, adventure tower, log climber, trim trail and a quiet area. The children and their families are delighted with the new equipment and grassed areas and are pleased that there is now far more opportunity for safe, active play.

“Everyone thinks it is fantastic and the children are of the opinion that we now have the best playground in town.” Mrs Fulthorpe concluded.
