Stannah aid MOD in Project SLAMs' massive accommodation upgrade

13 February 2009

Debut Services Limited, in conjunction with the Ministry of Defence, has chosen leading UK independent lift manufacturer, Stannah Lifts, for all passenger lift requirements within their Project SLAM accommodation blocks throughout England and Wales.

Costing £1 billion and spanning ten years, this single living accommodation modernisation programme will give Servicemen and women the quality of living quarters they deserve.

As part of this programme, two 8-person Piccolo FX structure-supported passenger lifts now give access to 240 studio apartments ranged over two five-storey buildings.  Ideal for modular builds such as these, the FX is supplied within its own structure and does not require a load-bearing wall. It will fit anywhere in a building including existing lift wells, with the reduced builder’s work saving time and money. Finished in durable brushed stainless steel inside and out, the lift interior also features a six-light flush ceiling, full-height rear mirror and dark grey vinyl studded floor.

A spokesperson for Debut Services said:
“Although the modular build required structure-supported lifts, it was reassuring that this was not compromised by the vigorous daily use by young, trainee soldiers. The Piccolo FX lifts are giving rugged service and look good, too!”

Available with traction or hydraulic drive, in wall-mounted models and with or without motor rooms, Stannah’s Piccolo range of 6-8-person passenger lifts offers a cost-effective solution for buildings requiring reduced headroom, durable performance and full DDA compliance.
