Stannah were crowned ‘Specialist Contractor of the Year’ at the Builder & Engineer Awards, last night.

A fitting accolade earned by the Major Projects and Escalator and Moving Walkway teams for their outstanding work in the UK’s infrastructure projects, including Birmingham New Street and Leeds stations.

The Awards entry looked at the following criteria

•    history of Stannah
•    products and services offering
•    recent significant projects in 2015/16
•    significant contracts won for 2017
•    how the teams work co-operatively with other contractors
•    examples of use of innovation to add value and improve performance
•    How relationships are managed with clients, sub- contractors and suppliers
•    Health & safety performance
•    Green credentials

The final question for the award entry was ‘what makes you stand out from the competition?’

The answer:

Since 1867 Stannah has remained a resolutely independent British business. By remaining true to our family values we have been quietly successful, expanding to have operating companies across the UK and all over the world.

At the heart of our work is a strong but simple promise that defines the Stannah position within our industry: ‘always true to our word’. This reflects the way they go about their business. Stannah is a single organisation with many specialities: passenger and platform lifts, goods and service lifts, stairlifts, escalators, moving walkways, bespoke and custom-made lifts and related lift services.

We have been a lift business since day one but commercially we have experienced preconceptions about our engineering heritage and capability due to our high profile stairlift success.

In 2015 our Escalators and Moving Walkways department and Major Projects team completed the supply and installation of escalators and lifts to the Birmingham New Street Regeneration Project (our largest job to date) and Leeds Station Southern Entrance extension (our quickest delivery to date). Nationwide we deliver our Network Rail maintenance contract, which alone has over 1130 assets, just a part of our 81,000 assets in our national maintenance portfolio.
