Commercial Union - Gas Boiler System

13 February 2017

Renowned as the market leader in the electronic treatment of hard water scaling, the patented ENiGMA system has broken new ground by successfully preventing the build-up of soot in a gas boiler.

The application carried out at the headquarters of a major insurance company in the City of London, followed information from the United States that improvements to gas consumption may be obtained by fitting ENiGMA units onto gas supplies.

Whilst it was recognised that gas supplies in the UK offer a near perfect fuel and ENiGMA may provide only a limited benefit, it was still decided to conduct a long-term experiment by fitting a unit onto an 8" common feed to an Allenygnis gas boiler for an 18-month period. The gas boiler, with electronic flame control, heats all the water needed for the 27-storey building.

During the experiment, the gas supply and boiler were regularly monitored. Although it was impossible for the company to clearly define any reduction in fuel usage, due to the variables in ambient temperature, it did come to the conclusion that there was an improved flame rate.

However, of particular interest to the company, and specifically Environmental Treatment Concepts, who manufacture and market the industrial and commercial ENiGMA products in the United Kingdom, was the fact the boiler stayed completely soot free - the first time in over 30 years.

Such has been the success of the experiment that the company has purchased the unit. The ENiGMA system has provided a short-term payback in reduced maintenance costs, as the company no longer has to employ two men to regularly clean the boiler.

This current success follows a similar application using an ENiGMA unit on an oil fuel line at a Hampshire horticulturist. In this instance, savings of between 3% and 5% were made on the use of heavy grade fuel oil. Of particular interest to the customer, was the reduction in the frequency and downtime of having the boiler stack cleaned.
