Green grants for rendering to reduce carbon footprint

20 April 2009

Considerable grants designed to reduce carbon emissions and save energy are now available to property owners for rendering and drylining their properties.

The UKs' original manufacturer of PVCu Beads, Renderplas, has welcomed the grants. According to The Energy Trust, as much as 1,130 kilograms of carbon per year, per property, can be saved by covering external walls.

Renderplas’ Daniel Leedham-Green says, “I’m delighted that so much encouragement is being given to reducing energy use and carbon output via the building trade. We began supplying beads for wall coverings in 1990 and set out to use as much recycled material as we could to have as neutral an effect on the environment as we could long before such aims were fashionable".

“That aim is now backed by regular audits and we will shortly be announcing that over 95% of the material used in our products come from recycled PVCu. With grants now encouraging more effective wall finishing, beads will have to stand up to real scrutiny now.  Only those that comply with appropriate building standards will be eligible to attract the substantial funding available.”

As much as £2700 for consumers and considerably more for commercial and social building projects can be claimed from programmes such as “The Warm Front” and “CERT 2008–2011” (Carbon Emissions Reduction Target).  The Energy Trust believes that the average household could save as much as £530pa when using a silicate based External Wall Insulation (EWI) system installed by a registered installation contractor.
