New Thorworld website contains all there is to know about Yard Ramps

09 June 2009

The new website from loading and unloading equipment specialists Thorworld, is a highly informative and specialist website.

The newly developed site covers everything a potential purchaser, hirer or user needs to know about mobile yard ramps – also sometimes referred to as vehicle or container loading ramps. The site explains what a yard ramp is, and outlines their advantages, together with information about ramp design and key features.

There is a useful section on how to select the right kind of loading ramp for a specific application, depending on the expected frequency of use, the kind of loads to be moved, and the type of fork lift trucks involved. Also included are the various factors that need to be taken into consideration when deciding whether to rent or buy a yard ramp. All of the various types of yard ramps are described in detail, together with information about the appropriate safety and quality standards.

John Meale, Managing Director of Thorworld Industries, said: "We have produced this informative website as a service to the industry. As it covers all aspects of ramp design, selection and use, we hope that this will prove of value, with the opportunity for site visitors to print out and retain the content for future reference".

The website also provides a link through to the main Thorworld site, which contains full details of their market leading mobile yard ramps range.

John Meale is a well-known and respected figure in the European Materials Handling Industry and has recently been appointed Vice President of the Federation Europeenne de la Manutention (FEM), the European Federation of Materials Handling. Additionally he is also President of FEMs' Elevating Equipment Product Group, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (FCILT), a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), a former President of the British Materials Handling Federation (BMHF) and past President of the Association of Loading & Elevating Equipment Manufacturers (ALEM).

John Meale has previously warned that there have already been problems with the use of poor quality ramps from Eastern Europe and beyond and said: "Using inferior imported materials handling and loading bay equipment could not only be a threat to the safety of personnel in the workplace, but may also result in expensive downtime".

"The solution is always to check with the supplier before you buy or rent that the equipment is CE marked and has been manufactured to EU quality and safety standards. Do not just assume it has been as it can be a false economy to buy or rent cheap substitutes if they are not totally safe to use, and it could lead to a serious accident."
