Kubota replaces JCB on Clyde Naval Bases

09 June 2009

Contractors, Colby Construction, who have a long term contract with the MOD, took delivery of Kabotas' U30-3 following trials of several machines.

The new Kubota 3.3 tonne U30-3 zero tail swing mini excavator is the first to be sold in Scotland and is helping with maintenance work at naval bases on the River Clyde.

Colby Constructions' owner, William Rooney, said: "Our operators preferred the Kubota to all the other minis we had on trial. They like its greater reach, its powerful engine and its operating capacity. I was keen on its competitive price, together with the three year warranty and built-in security system as standard, which no-one else could match."

A key feature of the U30-3 is its width of 1.55m, allowing it to gain access to and carry out excavating and trenching work in ultra-tight locations within the bases. It joins an 8 tonne Kubota KX08-3 model which Colby Construction use for heavier duties on the naval bases, such as removing spoil and loading tipper lorries. Both machines were supplied by local Kubota dealer, Young Plant & Equipment Sales, of Doune, Stirling.

The U30-3 sits between the existing 2.5 tonnes U25-3 and 3.5 tonne U35-3 machines as part of Kubota's extensive U Series range.

It generates 26.0kN of maximum digging force at the bucket and has a maximum reach of 5.060 mm at ground level, with a maximum digging depth of 3,060mm.

Kubota is the UK, European and world leader in mini excavators and provides the widest range of machines available from a single manufacturer. Customers can select from 19 base models spanning the weight range from 850kg up to 8 tonnes and including the largest selection of increasingly popular zero tail swing machines – all featuring Kubota's unique E-TVCS (Three Vortex Combustion System) engines, which enable high energy output, low vibration and economic fuel consumption, whilst minimising exhaust emissions.

Their compactness, legendary productivity, versatility and cost-effectiveness make them ideal for many different applications and end-users; from building, construction, civil engineering, quarrying, demolition, recycling and landscaping, to plant hire companies, utilities and owner operators.

All new Kubota models in the UK and Ireland, from 1.5 tonnes upwards, now feature their unique upgraded 'ANTI-THEFT PLUS' security system, the first and still the only one of its kind fitted as standard equipment by a mini excavator manufacturer.

This security system has also gained the certification of Thatcham, the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, and is recognised by insurers, which should result in substantial discounts on premiums for users of Kubota mini excavators.

Kubota has also again outstripped its competitors with the recent announcement that all new machines in the UK and Ireland now carry a full 3 year warranty as standard. The new 3 year (3,000 hours) warranty applies to all models across the entire Kubota range. Typically most other manufacturers currently offer a maximum 2 year standard warranty period.

Coupled with outstanding nationwide dealer support, Kubota minis provide unbeatable value for money – a vitally important consideration in the current economic downturn
