Top 5 Office Cleaning Tips for a Busy Workforce

18 October 2019

As this is our first post on the Approved Business Directory, we have decided to offer five fantastic tips on how you can keep office space in tip top condition.

Of course you’ll need to get the entire team on board, but that’s no problem….. Right? At least it isn’t for a UK leading commercial cleaning company.

Here at Clean360 we are a highly professional and dedicated cleaning company. Working nationwide since 2012 we have an extremely broad skill set including industrial and commercial cleaning, builders cleans, jet washing, high level access and much more. For more insight into how we can help, please take a look at some of our recent work.

Back to those tips we promised you. When office space is clean and tidy the environment is fantastic, promoting a healthy workforce and encouraging motivation. Here’s our top five tips for keeping things straight in the office.

Begin With a Coffee

Estimated Cleaning Time:  20 seconds
Frequency: With every drink made

This is a necessity for many people when starting their working day. We live in a fast-paced world so chances are, five minutes in the kitchen whilst making a drink is a well needed time to gather up thoughts for the day. Feeling motivated for the tasks that lay ahead is far easier in a clean kitchen. The best tip we can offer here is to make each team member responsible for themselves. Make a drink, rinse the spoon and push a cloth over the worktop; job done. Tidying up as you go along leaves a clean environment for the next person coming in to also plan their day around the kettle.

Tidy Desk Tidy Mind

Estimated Cleaning Time: 10 Minutes
Frequency: Weekly

Dust, papers strewn around in disarray, numerous pens, receipts, the list of desk related paraphernalia goes on. Whilst you may fool your mind into thinking it’s an ‘organised mess’, you aren’t tricking anyone else! Remove everything (apart from PC’s). Dust, spray and wipe; now you’re part way there. The next part requires a certain level of organisation. Are there items you really no longer need? If so, get rid of them. Once complete your desk will become an inviting space to be greeted with each and every day.

Don’t Let it Overflow

Estimated Cleaning Time: 2 Minutes (depending on where the main bin is)
Frequency: Bi-Weekly

There’s nothing worse than a bin overflowing. Well…. There’s plenty actually, but for the purpose of our post, it’s not great! Rubbish spilling over is not the best look for you, colleagues and guests to the office. If it’s paper, shred it. If it’s food related, take it to the kitchen or outside bin. This task is all about making the team individually responsible.

Invest in a Dishwasher

Estimated Cleaning Time: 7 Minutes
Frequency: Daily

This solution is ideal, especially for busy people, constantly on the go. We’ve already discussed tips for cleaning when making coffee. Leading on from this concept, team members can pop cups and other utensils in the dishwasher at the end of the day. All you need is one person to switch it on at the end of the day and another to empty it the next morning. Doing this on a rota basis means everyone will take their turn and less work is required during the day. Easy!

Hire External Help

Estimated Cleaning Time: 1 hour+ (based on office size)
Frequency: Weekly / Bi-Weekly

Seconding a cleaning company to visit weekly or even bi-weekly takes the overall strain out of majority cleaning. By tasking everyone with responsibility for themselves all that’s left are the bigger jobs such as dusting, hoovering and mopping. Sure, you could do these yourself but that would mean taking time away from important tasks. How much time can you afford to take out of your day to spend on cleaning?

Having reached this point, we would love to hear of any handy hints and tips you have for maintaining a clean work environment.
