Wheelabrator Casts Spell Over Major International Foundry Exhibition

03 August 2007

World leading designer and manufacturer of surface preparation equipment, Wheelabrator Group, is causing temperatures to soar in the global foundry industry after casting a spell over delegates at this year’s GIFA international trade fair in Dűsseldorf, Ge

Featuring six themed areas dedicated to iron and aluminium foundries, forges and automotive, transportation and power generation industries, the impressive 19x14 m2 stand with mezzanine floor definitely pulled in the crowds. The Wheelabrator team ran a smooth operation and the exhibition was highly successful beating the set targets of 400 qualified leads and €10million value of new project potential.

The highlight of the stand was the launch of Wheelabrator’s TITAN turbine generation, a brand new blast wheel that can be adapted to fit virtually any wheel blast machine. This versatile turbine has been designed to enhance performance, reduce maintenance time, cut production cost and can improve efficiency by up to 30 per cent.

Another main feature on the stand was a 7.5m high x 6m wide section of a spinner hanger blast machine for seven tonne castings, which is being built for a power generation application. This ’small’ section of what will be a huge machine incorporates four heavy duty, curved vane blast turbines, and allowed visitors a closer look at the internal heavy duty manufacturing standards of a foundry-specification blast machine. The project also includes two bigger blast machines, designed for castings of 15 and 30 tonnes, which will be installed in a new foundry in India.

International award-winning close-up magician, Phil Jay, who entertained guests with a range of magic tricks, captivated visitors to the stand by cleverly linking into the company’s key attributes. All visitors not only went away with a greater insight into Wheelabrator’s technology and cost effective solutions, they also left the stand with a little bit of Wheelabrator magic!

Exhibition delegates also had the opportunity to understand the company’s equipment modernisation programmes. Foundry industry customers continue to recognise the benefits of incorporating the latest technology into their exisiting machinery, rather than spending on new equipment, gaining considerable savings in time and money.

Antonio Isola, sales manager of Wheelabrator Group’s Pangborn Europe (heavy duty) product range, said: “We’re delighted at the excitement we caused on the stand at GIFA, confirming our deep involvement in the foundry industry. Innovation is the lifeblood of every industry and with foundries facing increasing competition at home and abroad this can provide a vital edge as the marketplace shifts.

“Our technical expertise and extensive experience in the global foundry industry makes us ideally placed to help our customers improve their production at home, or move and develop into new markets, particularly as activity in Asia and Eastern Europe increases.

“We can offer foundries heavy duty, tried and tested solutions, as well as innovative new products and beneficial modernisation upgrades, which can invigorate casting processes and contribute greatly to business development strategies. We believe our TITAN turbine to be easily the best wheel on the market and we are currently developing a ‘heavy duty’ TITAN turbine specifically for the foundry industry.”

Key personnel from Wheelabrator’s teams across the world, including the UK, Canada, USA, Asia, Spain, Germany, Italy and France, were present on the stand, as well as key members of the company’s aftermarket support and service division, Wheelabrator Plus.
