Leister ignites

23 February 2007

LEISTER, the Swiss design & manufacturer of hot air systems prides itself on the continued development of innovative solutions as new heat source applications emerge.

With particular emphasis on the global reduction of carbon emissions, Leister has introduced the TRIAC IGNITION to address the rising take up of wood burning ovens in both commercial and domestic applications. The use of wood ovens as an ecologically friendly alternative to oil based heating systems has seen strong growth in Germany, Austria and Switzerland over the last 18 months. Because of increased emphasis on lower carbon emissions, take up of wood burning ovens in France, Ireland and the UK is now also on the increase. The ovens concerned use either compressed wooden pellets which are manufactured under high pressure without additional synthetic substances. Alternatively the ovens can also be powered using wood chip waste. The LEISTER TRIAC IGNITION is situated at the base of the oven in order to provide a concentrated ignition source at temperatures up to 600 degrees centigrade that will ignite the oven in under 2 minutes; significantly faster than a hot electric stick that are still used by some oven manufacturers (up to 8 mins). The hot air stream is silently directed by the tool via a flue onto the pellet material to ignite the oven. Temperature is then controlled by the normal heating controls of the oven. The high durability and reliability of the Swiss built TRIAC IGNITION means that oven manufacturers do not need to send out costly service crews for onsite maintenance of the ignition tool. Fundamentally, as well as being more economical to run than oil heating equivalents, wood burners are CO2 neutral meaning that the amount of C02 being dispersed into the atmosphere is the same as the amount created by the original growth of the wood.
