One-metre cores reveal exact soil structure and locate oil contamination

21 August 2007

Terrain Aeration, the compressed air de-compaction specialists have been employing their ONE-METRE DEEP SOIL CORING SERVICE in waterlogged back gardens following the recent rains.

“Builders and developers are interested in finding out the exact cause of water-logging in the gardens of some of their developments,” says MD David Green. “Our aeration treatment rapidly improves drainage and lasts up to 7 years. It can cure the problem but not identify a cause. To meet this need I adapted one of our Airforce Terralift Tracker machines to produce core samples.”

The cores are 75mm in diameter and 1 metre long and are produced and protected by a transparent plastic casing, which makes them easy to transport for further examination and/or laboratory testing.

This coring process can reveal the depth and nature of any contamination by oil, diesel or other hydrocarbons. Terrain Aeration can treat contamination in the top metre of soil with the soil remaining in situ. “A biological medium is injected using our Terralift aeration system to biodegrade these contaminants,” says David Green.   “The recent flooding has resulted in a great deal of soil contamination, as oil has escaped from flooded vehicles and storage tanks. Our oil bioremediation service is   an effective and eco-friendly way to deal with the situation”.
