Monorail Shot Blast systems descale structural steel elements for Wind Power sector

11 September 2009

The Wheelabrator® Monorail Shot Blast system is fully-automated and designed to descale and remove rust from large frames, weldments and fabricated structural steel elements for heavy equipment such as wind towers and components.

This high-productivity system effectively cleans work pieces up to 84-inches wide and 96-inches high, eliminating the environmental problems and high labor costs associated with manual air blasting.

The blast chamber is constructed of welded manganese with in-line replaceable wear plates. The airless wheel system consists of twelve-bladed Autoblast wheels with TargetLok® control cage positioning that distributes abrasive evenly over the entire length of the blast pattern up to an abrasive velocity rate of 350 feet per second.

Extended vestibules with multiple sets of seals provide optimum abrasive retention. This machine comes with an abrasive recycling system consisting of lower hoppers, elevator with cast iron buckets and a CFS (Compensating Flow) air wash separator for fine and coarse particle removal.

Wheelabrator Monorail machines are available in six standard models to handle a broad range of part sizes with custom sizes available to meet special customer requirements. Each system is designed for use with recyclable, long-lasting steel shot, and comes equipped with heavy-duty Autoblast® wheels, which have a history of outstanding performance and reliability while increasing productivity and reducing maintenance and operational costs.
