Demco project at Milton Keynes Library

29 December 2009

Demcos' recent project at Milton Keynes Library provides higher profile in the community.

Plans for the Central Library were based around solutions to the problems of improved access, higher profile, implementation of self issue and café facilities and was tied into a re-branding exercise in reponse to a peer review for libraries to have a higher profile in the community.

Demco worked with the Milton Keynes Council design team to create a fresh, modern, welcoming interior.  Working with brand guidelines was vital and furnishings included bright sofas and stools to match the brand colours.  Bespoke streamlined book display units, modern café/bistro style tables and chairs and bespoke RFID self issue units, quick IT areas and brightly coloured children’s furnishings completed the Milton Keynes look.

The Central Library now ‘occupies a completely different space’. The high atrium in the foyer, with its familiar original artwork, becomes the focus and, beneath, the facilities that any visitor could want. Milton Keynes has always been a City unafraid of trying new things and the Central Library continues to support that ethos.
