When Colaiste Eoin school in Dublin needed to replace its old gymnasium flooring, they turned to Tarkett to provide a new sports flooring solution.

Colaiste Eoin school is also one of the few schools in Ireland to have a climbing wall.

The project was arranged through Dublin VEC (vocational educational committee) via Gardiner Architects and Brian M Durkan Construction. The original flooring was a plywood tile with thin foam strips to the underside and a vinyl tile adhered to the surface.  For the new floor, the architect specified a linoleum surface adhered to a plywood base fitted on a foam.
Laydex Dublin recommended Tarkett’s Lumaflex Duo sub-structure with a Linosport sports surface for the 680m2 installation.

Cathal Scott, Indoor Sports & Seating Manager for Laydex explained: “When we were asked to price this project, I suggested the Tarkett Lumaflex system as it is a complete EN Standards sports floor all from one recognised source. I like this system because it’s a truly multipurpose floor. Other floors with timber finishes require protective materials when not being used for sports events (i.e. school assemblies, plays, etc), which can be expensive and time consuming to install.  Also, every school in Ireland has lino so the staff know the product and how easy it is to keep clean.”

Tarkett’s Lumaflex is the ideal sub-surface solution and benefits from an exclusive assembly system. When Lumaflex Duo is combined with a PVC or linoleum surface, it increases the performance characteristics of the system to facilitate the highest standards of sport (shock absorption, according to the EN14808 Standard: >45%) making Lumaflex a sensible choice for school sports facilities.

Offering all the durability benefits of linoleum combined with the sports performance of Lumaflex sub-construction. A factory applied X-treme Finish (XF) surface protection ensures optimal durability and resistance, with ease of maintenance. Tarkett also offers a cradle and batten levelling system designed for installations over uneven floors and for those that require a void to be filled to bring the finished floor height to the correct level.  Compliant with EN14904, this system is suitable for use with wood, PVC and linoleum sports surfaces.
