Tarkett leads the way around the new Grange Academy

16 June 2010

Tarkett’s linoleum flooring is helping students and staff find their way around the new £70m Grange Academy in Kilmarnock.

Home to over 1800 students, the new campus brings together pupils from the Grange Academy, Annanhill Primary and special needs pupils from Park School.  Over 3000m2 of Tarkett’s Veneto xf linoleum flooring has been installed throughout the circulation areas and corridors, utilising a variety of colours to denote different zones within the building, aiding navigation around the 3-storey complex.

Harndec Flooring carried out the installations and were delighted with the overall result, as Alisdhair McIndoe, Commercial Director commented “Having worked with Tarkett on a number of projects in the past, we were happy to be working with them again here. When Tarkett Veneto is installed by quality, time-served craftsmen, the finish and look is always impressive and the Grange is no exception.”

Tarkett has been producing linoleum flooring for over 100 years using raw materials like cork, resin, jute and linseed oil that help to make it a natural, sustainable flooring solution.  With a naturally antibacterial and inherently strong surface that has the ability to self-heal scratches and damage, linoleum is an ideal choice for busy environments.  Tarkett’s xf surface treatment further enhances its resistance to abrasion, stains and chemicals and makes cleaning and maintenance easier and more economical, with savings of more than 50% on water, detergent and energy.

The central spine of the new school complex incorporates a lot of shared facilities, including the main ‘street’; a wide circulation zone that also serves as a dining area.  Tarkett’s Veneto xf provided the necessary hardwearing flooring solution, and the choice of 50 colour references enabled several intricate designs and colour changes to be incorporated around the school.

Over 1000m2 of Tarkett’s Eclipse Premium was also installed within the atrium/ theatre of the new Academy. This hardwearing vinyl flooring combines a harmonious design, balanced raw material content and good maintenance properties.  It needs no additional surface treatment such as wax or polish when exposed to normal wear and tear, offering an economical flooring solution with good lifecycle costs.
