Oracle Storage Systems were given the contract to design supply, deliver and install 2 mezzanine floors, static and mobile shelving plus conveyors to house-over 1 Million medical records for the NHS Portsmouth Hospitals. With fierce competition Oracle Storage was awarded the contract based upon, amongst other criteria: 1. Design: With the years of experience and the knowledge of our products, we were able to create more file and record storage space compared to others, which also allowed the NHS Trust much needed extra space, for future expansion. 2. Savings: The NHS saved thousands of pounds by re-using their existing systems. Where other bidding companies said it couldn't be done. We used our seirs approved team of installers, to dismantle the existing mobile shelving, then re-install them onto newly laid, tracks and floor 3.Supply & Design: Oracle Storage designed and supplied new storage systems throughout the new building, which will help increase the speed of the picking rate of medical records, thus saving the NHS time and money. Working closely with the Trust, positioning of conveyors, shelving layouts were all taken into consideration to help make the travel distances for the staff in the building shorter and easier, to make This project also included the office development and refurbishment for over 40 NHS staff. Brief Storage requirements created by the merger of 3 hospitals medical records in 1 industrial unit. Solution The project was successfully completed by a team of 10 Oracle storage specialists with the majority of the project being carried out to minimise staff disruption. In total, our shelving system & design created storage to accommodate 1 2. Million medical records on-shelf files to confidential legal documents and patent information. Criteria included limited floor space, secure access to documents and heavily loaded shelving, all of which dictated the type of installation to be fitted. Oracle’s Profile adjustable steel shelving provided the necessary strong structure and high capacity and was, therefore used throughout. This project was a real test of logistics planning as the relocation from 3 separate locations to the new Head Office needed to be completed within a tight time scale which included a holiday shutdown.
