Axess 4 All on board HMS Belfast

27 August 2010

Axess 4 All Ltd has recently installed an external platform lift on Londons' floating naval museum, HMS Belfast.

The hydraulic platform lift enables visitors with impaired mobility to gain access betwween the ships' main deck and upper deck. Housed inside one of storage areas, the lift allows access for less abled visitors to the main area of the ship including areas where the crew ate, slept and spent time on duty. The lift also serves the deck above where visitors can discover the command centres where naval battles were fought.

The Axess A3000 Hydraulic Platform Lift was installed very quickly in such a difficult, complex and unusual site. The doors are steel and the shaft roof and light are automatic.

HMS Belfast is a floating naval museum, moored on the Thames between Tower Bridge and London Bridge. She was the first ship to be preserved for the nations' naval heritage since Nelsons' HMS Victory, as a vital and enduring memory of naval warfare in the twentieth century. She saw military action in the sinking of the German battle cruiser Scharnhorst and in supporting the advancing allied troops during D-Day landings.

HMS Belfast is open to two permanent exhibitions on board and allows for schools and youth groups to "sleepover" for up to 3 nights in unique accommodation, sampling the naval ways in real sailors' bunks and mess rooms.
