Award Winning TICA

18 December 2007

Thermal Insulation Contractors Association (TICA) of Darlington, County Durham represents UK companies involved in industrial thermal insulation

and its Asbestos Control and Abatement Division (ACAD) represents businesses involved in the management and removal of asbestos. By the middle of 2005 the cost of purchasing insurance protection had become a major issue for TICA-ACAD members. Premiums had become excessively high, as a result, a growing number of companies were leaving the industry. A scheme to alleviate this problem was introduced, ACAD Insurance Solutions, launched February 2006. Its commercial impact has been significant. In financial terms, savings can represent tens of thousands of pounds for a single company and it is estimated the scheme has saved the industry, as a whole, some £2million in its first year alone. On Tuesday 10th July 2007 TICA attended the Trade Association Forum Awards ceremony at The Millennium Hotel, Mayfair in London, and won the ‘Commercial Initiative of the Year Award’ for the success in a commercial venture. TICA was chosen as one of three finalists from many entries; the judges agreed TICA had done the most to deserve the award. The judges were impressed by the fact TICA had taken such positive action over an issue threatening the industry. The award was presented to the president of TICA, Ian Dalgarno (of Hertel Services Ltd) by Robin Murray Brown (of Norman Broadbent) and guest speaker, Gyles Brandreth, former Lord Commissioner of the Treasury in John Major's government and broadcaster for many programmes, including “Have I Got News for You”.
