Reid PD1000 launches boat from awkward positiion

04 July 2011

The Porta-Davit 1000, newly launched by Reid Lifting, was called upon by engineering consultants, John Grimes Partnership, to launch a cleints' sailing boat over a wall and negotiating a tree before being lowered down onto the tidal estuary of the Devonshire coast.

Up to the challenge, Reid Lifting used their unique, newly launched Porta-Davit 1000, aluminium lifting davit, as the base product, customising a lightweight, portable lifting system that provided a 2.5m radius, WLL 250kg rated Davit system, operable by just one person, that was easily assembled, operated, dismantled, bagged and stored, leaving the client with a beautiful garden unscathed by the fixings of traditional fixed lifting systems.

With engineering plans provided by John Grimes' Joe Hearn, Reid Lifting were able to supply a fixed, flush mounted socket behind the 200+ year old garden retaining wall and customise the new PD1000 to develop the WLL250kg, 2.5m radius solution that worked perfectly in trials, as shown.

John Grimes Partnership, the client and Reid staff were all very pleased with the outcome, as well as the opportunity to visit this beautiful location.

Reid Lifting Managing Director, Nick Battersby;

“It was a great pleasure to be involved in a very personal application in such a beautiful location. This development now gives us great potential for approaching the sailing fraternity and Marina Companies with some excellent lifting products designed for their needs, as well as our more traditional Water & Waste Water clients.”

This successful development builds on Degremont Egypt’s selection of the Reid PD1000 as a solution for their lifting challenges where heavier Water Treatment pumps ruled out previous existing solutions.
