Adjustable Screens Zapp roof terrace at Vertigo Lounge

Vertigo Lounge in Hornchurch, has recently undergone a £500,000 refurbishment. Now boasting a premium café during the day and a lounge bar in the evenings, Zapp Umbrellas’ AGS screens contribute to the new alfresco open roof terrace experience.
Vertigo Lounge is aimed at aspirational over 25 year-olds looking for a more sophisticated social venue in the busy suburban town. Zapp Canopy Umbrellas Ltd manufactured and installed seven adjustable glass screens (AGS), which face out from the second floor terrace which in turn opens out from the orangery.The AGS screens offered a perfect solution for the sophisticated venue, providing a new and pleasurable experience for their customers. On a sunny day these innovative screens can be lowered to enjoy the weather yet can be raised to a greater height for maximum protection on a windy day. As well as offering security, AGS ensures comfort and relaxation in most weathers.
Darren Eva, project manager and co-owner, commented,” It was important that during the day the balustrades could be placed in the lower position giving the feeling of integration with the street scene but could be adjusted during the evening into the higher position for the improved comfort and safety of evening guests. During the more inclement months the balustrade acts as an excellent windbreak which, in conjunction with an awning and a selection of radiant heaters, extends the use of the terrace significantly. Another unexpected bonus is the sound suppression from the busy street below.”
The 3,300sq ft venue, which has been a furniture store for three decades, covers three floors connected via an open staircase.
It was decided to launch the concept as a gap was seen in the Hornchurch market for a venue for drinks before dinner. Darren continued, “We needed to consider the recent smoking legislation and Zapp’s balustrades gives our customers a feeling of being in the inside whilst outside.”
