Access for all in Custom House revamp

24 January 2012

Custom House in Middlesborough, originally built in Greek revival style, has recently undergone a revamp, part of which was the installation of a platform lift from Axess 4 All.

Following many uses over the years including as a community centre and council chambers, the Grade II listed building was run down but now has bright new future.

Custom House, dating back to 1836, was chosen as a much needed Myplace facility for teenagers, providing a mix of positive services and activities. Over 800 people aged 13 to 19 took part in choosing the location meaning that they played an active role in deciding what was right for them.

Platform Lift specialists Axess All were delighted to be oart of the £4.5m project with the installation of their A5000 platform lift, chosen to serve four floors from the basement to the second floor with all landings having aesthetically pleasing one-hour fire rated doors.

Having the Axess 4 All A5000 Platform Lift means that the young people and staff are able to enjoy all the facilities that this beautiful historic building now has to offer - a place that they can really call their own.
