Low-bake powders coat mdf panels

Powder is ideal for coating mdf, used in furniture construction. Here the breakthrough came with the introduction of low temperature curing Alesta UL coating

There are no limits to the applications that can be found for powder coatings say DuPont Powder Coatings.

The architectural sector has long been a mainstay of the powder business and recent trends have seen a change to more colourful and anodised aluminium finishes along with bright and clean looking metallics and subtle pearlescents, wood print finishes and Alesta Tex leatherette finishes for partitions, cabinets and furniture.

Automotive applications too are growing. A typical story involves Titan Steel Wheels Ltd who considered both HS and water-based paint solutions to meet their environmental commitments, but chose powder as it also offered superior curing times coupled with the extreme durability required for their OE industrial and rough-terrain vehicle wheels.

Additionally, powder increasingly finds application for coating mdf, used in the construction of furniture. Here the breakthrough came with the introduction of Alesta UL, a low temperature curing coating that ensures that the mdf panels do not dry out and crack during the fast cure cycle. The ability of powder to “wrap around” complex shapes and still maintain the integrity of the coating, enables product design to incorporate intricate curves and seamless edges and still retain the coating’s proven properties.
