A Regal Wrapping Machine for Chivas Brothers

Yorkshire Packaging Systems are proud to report the installation of one of their shrink tunnels at the Chivas Brothers factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.
Chivas Brothers are the manufacturer behind many popular Scotch Whiskey and Gin brands, including Chivas Regal, Beefeater, Glenlivet, Royal Salute and Ballantines, with each liquor enjoying a revered reputation for quality and taste across the world. The company owns an impressive 13 malt distilleries, a grain distillery, two gin distilleries, two bottling facilities and 300 bonded warehouses containing an extensive aged inventory of more than six million casks. When it comes to spirits, Chivas Brothers are the very definition of luxury. The luxe element of the Chivas brand is mirrored in their packaging. Their elegant whiskey bottles are housed inside plush boxes before being encased in decorative cardboard sleeves which are carefully added by hand for a personalised touch. The packs are then shrink wrapped in polyolefin film to create a tamper-evident seal as well as a high gloss aesthetic finish. As a premium value product, the shrink wrapped layer delivers the utmost quality appearance that consumers have come to expect.
Chivas Brothers have been using shrink wrapping machinery from YPS since they purchased their first TR45-90 heat tunnel in early 2016, and have been delighted with the equipment and the after-sales support they have received. This most recent installation in October 2019 was therefore a straight repeat order allowing the firm to process more packs following a period of increased growth.
The new machine was complete with a roller conveyor belt, which avoids marks being made on the underside of the packs and an inverter-controlled air flow to three sides for optimal shrinkage. These features ensure an unblemished and well-presented finished pack deserving of the bottle within. The high speed of 30 packs per minute that Chivas Brothers desired was more than matched by the machine and a comprehensive service contract was included to deliver complete peace of mind.
Perhaps the most surprising element of this installation success story is the speed at which it materialised. YPS received a call from Chivas Brother’s engineering manager on a Friday afternoon in October advising of their urgent requirements and had the machine delivered and in place by the following Monday morning.
