PPE & Securing Your Team

09 June 2020

COVID-19 aside, PPE is required throughout many companies on a daily basis. Its primary use is to reduce risks to workers and today we are discussing this in detail.

What does PPE stand for?

Quite simply, PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment.

What is PPE used for?

As already mentioned, this specific type of workwear is designed to reduce risk in the workplace. Currently, the NHS are sporting hazmat suits in order to be fully protected from the Coronavirus. For those working in factories and similar industries, different types of protection are required.

Health & Safety Requirements

As a company, it’s your responsibility to ensure the safety of each and every employee. You must meet the necessary Health and Safety requirements or you will in fact be in breach of the law. Employers must consider who is exposed and to what. How long is exposure and how much are individuals exposed to? Having determined companies can then move onto provision of the correct protective clothing.

Reduce Workplace Risks

Disposable Coveralls: Ideal for protection during the current pandemic, disposable coveralls are fully secure. Made from a polypropylene substrate and the addition of a laminated microporous film, coveralls inhibit the passage of liquid molecules. Any vapour that builds up inside has the ability to make its way out.

Masks & Respirators: Significant for numerous industries, masks and respirators secure and preserve the lungs by protecting against fine dusts and mists. To ensure full protection during COVID-19, disposable masks are required in order to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.

Ear Protection: Working for long periods of time with high intensity noise can lead to certain elements of ear damage. This is easily avoided when using ear plugs. Options include disposable and reusable, dependant upon your industry.

Eye Protection: Unfortunately, between 10 and 20% of eye related accidents in the workplace result in partial or full blindness. This number need not be so high, especially when using the correct eye protection. Tested to meet the necessary standards, eye protection is certainly a huge requirement.

At PPG Workwear we offer a whole host of PPE all of which is designed to correct standards in order to help you reduce risk.
