Non-Intrusive Split Core Current Transducers for Motor Current Monitoring

28 March 2023

AMELEC Instruments was established in 1975 and has been designing, manufacturing and supplying a wide range of quality, robust and reliable instrumentation for the process industry sectors for over 47 years now.

When it comes to monitoring the running current of motors, although we do still offer conventional Ring type Current Transformers along with associated Din Rail mounted Current Transducers to convert the secondary 0-1 Amp or 0-5 Amp signals to 4-20mA, have you considered the advantages of using Non-intrusive Split-core Current Transducers ?.

Product Highlight: Non-Intrusive Split Core Current Transducers for Motor Current Monitoring – Quick Delivery available from our UK factory!

Non-intrusive split-core current transducers offer an efficient and cost effective solution for monitoring the running current of motors.

They allow for the measurement of current without the need for physically breaking into or modifying the existing electrical wiring arrangements, by simply opening the transducer and placing it around the existing cables, hence making them a ‘non-intrusive’ option.

This ease of installation is one of the main advantages of using split-core transducers, however another great advantage is that they then also provide a direct 4-20mA isolated output as a 2-wire or 3-wire loop connection for the data logger, plc or other device in the control system, without the need for any other signal interface or conditioning.

The split-core transducers themselves are up to SIL 2 rated in 1oo1 architecture (HFT:0 , IEC 61508-2), suitable for either Din Rail or Surface mounting and available for quick delivery from our UK factory. Customer output loop connections are available as either screw connector blocks or integrated sleeved cable lengths, to suit a variety of different applications.

Input current monitoring ranges are available from 0-10 Amp up to 500 Amp AC, or 0-2 Amp up to 6000 Amp DC, and any intermediate current ranges may be specified.

Please do contact our sales team with your full specification requirements if you would like any help in choosing the current transducer best suited to your motor current monitoring application.
