COOL AIR CURTAINS DOWN UNDER

JS Air Curtains has supplied six Zen air curtains to The Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns, Australia. The units were installed by Haden Engineering Ltd to help solve a condensation problem due to an average daily maximum outdoor temperature of 29°C.
Glyn Wakeman, Sales Engineer at Haden, commented, “The problem was that hot air was being blown in when the doors opened resulting in condensation problems at the perimeter supply grilles and poor performance of the air conditioning. Since the Zen air curtains from JS have been installed, which come on as the doors open by relays - no BMS involved, they’ve stopped the hot air blowing in.”In contrast to a typical UK air curtain installation, which is to provide protection from cold air entering a building, the Zen air curtain installation in Cairns shows just how effective air curtains are at maintaining internal temperatures year-round, reducing heating and air conditioning bills.
The six 1.5m Zen air curtains were supplied to The Reef Hotel Casino in brushed stainless steel but are available with bespoke fascia panels in different materials, such as aluminium or wood, and can incorporate branding or signage.
The Zen can provide up to 6,475m³/h of air and is capable of protecting doorways up to 3.5m high. It is available in 0.5m lengths from 1m to 2.5m and is offered with electric or water heating options giving up to 32kW of heat. Alternatively it can be supplied as an air only unit, as was the case in The Reef Hotel Casino.
Airflow is provided by double in-let centrifugal fans with an external rotor motor. The discharge vents have directional airfoils to direct the airflow, creating a tighter seal across a doorway. Operation is via a five speed controller that is supplied with 20m of plug and play RJ45 cable. Alternatively it can be connected to a BMS.
