Affordable 3+1 axis High Speed CNC Machining from Addison

04 March 2011

Italian producer Mecal are now considered as one of the worlds largest and most progressive producers of aluminium fabrication machinery and equipment. Addison Saws have been exclusive partners for more than 10 years now covering UK and Ireland markets, during this period we have installed more than 60 cnc machining centres.

Following, understanding & predicting market requirements is an essential part of product development. With this in mind the MC309-Nike was cleverly conceived to deliver the most cost effective CNC solution in our market place. Reviewing the natural course of the CNC market historically, most large to medium producers have generally been using these machines for many years and the domino effect seems to have stopped there leaving small to medium fabricators in the cold with regard to the purchase cost of suitable equipment.

There are however compromised solutions that have been aggressively sold. The 3 axis machine with angle drive head for example, is not considered to be a sound long term investment and has many disadvantages over a true 4 axis version. For example, there is no automatic tool change for the cutters in the angle drive head, adding long tool change times into the equation. Angle drive units are very fragile and generally recommended for intermittent use only. In addition, it is not possible to machine at intermediate angles, with many window systems now adopting hidden drainage features this becomes a major disadvantage.

The Mecal MC309 from Addison Saws, tackles all of these problems head on, with prices currently starting at below £50k for the entry model with 180˚ rotating table to work 3 sides and intermediate angles. When configured this way the main spindle does all of the work so you virtually have the same functionality of a full 4 axis machine. This all new machine is specifiable with, automatic clamp positioning and 5 tool automatic magazine.

The enclosed design offers maximum operator protection and sound reduction, with both machine ends open to work longer profiles up to 6900mm. The new MecalCam 3D is a software revolution and the most advanced in the market place. It enables stand alone programming, linking to commercial curtain wall, window and door managing packages, or direct production from popular design & CAD software.

All Mecal CNC machines use standard HP PCs, this massively reduces replacement, repair costs and potential downtime in comparison with our competitors who all use bespoke units. Mecal are the first producer in this market sector to use the very latest fibre optic PLC technology which is used in the new MC309. This system takes communication speed to a completely new level.

The new MC309 is a machine that sets new standards and will open many doors to aluminium fabricators in these highly competitive times.
