Beauty from Within Conference Highlights Skin Supplements Potential

15 December 2011

iiaa head of nutrition Lorraine Perretta, who recently attended the Beauty from Within conference in Paris alongside other key players in the oral beauty market, reports that the key trends identified there point to good news for the professional beauty industry.

The conference established that beauty from within is being provided from two key areas: functional foods – natural or enriched foods which are high in certain nutrients which have a positive impact on skin - and supplements.  While global sales of beauty food and drinks have grown just 14% between 2006 and 2010, beauty supplement sales have grown by some 50%, to almost $3 billion dollars.

“Clearly the public is willing to invest in supplements that offer beauty benefits,” says Lorraine, who is brand manager for Advanced Nutrition Programme, the iiaa’s beauty food supplements line. “The key theme for beauty from within products going forward is looking as good as you can for your age – and preventative action is starting younger.  The core market for oral beauty was defined as women 30-60 plus but now even women in their twenties are interested.“

“Education and building consumer trust were seen as key factors in untapping this potential and there’s clearly a role to be played by skincare therapists.  Our stockists have already seen how their recommendation to follow a combined inside and out approach has helped transform clients’ skins.”
