Spangled Galvanised Steel

Metal Sheets Ltd are hot dip galvanised steel sheet suppliers to all sectors of industry.

A selection of pre-cut sizes are available in our online store MetalOffcuts.co.uk.

We manufacture Pressings, Flashings, Wall Cappings, Door Security Panels, Roofing Details, Table Tops and much more from Galvanised Steel Sheet Metal.

Note that the spangled finish is no longer available from Europe due to EEC regulations on manufacturing process controls which prohibits the use of lead, it is lead that creates the spangle. So, hot dip galvanised sheet steel produced in the EEC is a plain non-spangled finish. Spangled stock is occasionally available, this generally comes from the far east but our stock is normally plain

Typical Applications of Galvanised Steel Sheet

  • Automotive components and body panels
  • Roofing, Wall and Door Cladding
  • General building components and rainwater goods.
  • Domestic appliances, electrical goods and agricultural components.

General Properties of Galvanised Steel Sheet

  • Excellent for cold forming bending and profiling.
  • Guillotine cutting draws zinc across the cut to help prevent rusting
  • Good corrosion resistance with a life expectancy up to 25 years before maintenance
  • Avoid breathing the fumes which can develop when zinc is welded

Note: The degree of spangle varies widely from very little to pronounced as in the picture above.

What Is Hot Dip galvanising

The basic process involves dipping steel products in to molten zinc at 450 Deg C, a chemical reaction then occurs that bonds a layer of zinc to the steel. This layer protects the steel from rusting. The preparation of the metal prior to galvanising is most important to achieving a good quality zinc layer. Parts must be free of grease, scale, and contamination then pre-fuxed before immersion. Immersion lasts about 4 minutes.
