CAMS® STEERS SPECIALIST CARS IN DIRECTION OF PERIMETER PROTECTION

CAMS® Fire & Security PLC has opted for a combination of active beams and external passive infra red detectors from Optex Europe

CAMS® Fire & Security PLC has opted for a combination of active beams and external passive infra red detectors from Optex Europe to protect the prestigious new showrooms and sales area of Specialist Cars, a main BMW and MINI Dealership in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.

Specialist Cars wanted customers to have the freedom of viewing their cars out-of-hours, or when the sales area was left unattended, but without compromising the security and protection of some very high-value vehicles. CAMS® recommended a system of perimeter protection using a number of external passive infra red detectors surrounded by a continuous curtain of active beams.

In researching the market for suitable technology, CAMS® needed products that not only delivered the performance they were looking for, but were also reliable and aesthetically appropriate. It chose a combination of REDNET and REDWALL technologies from Optex Europe.

“The final design was based on a complete wall of detection using Optex REDNET towers around the perimeter of the open site which allows customers to enter freely but be detected when passing through a particular section of the perimeter detection,” explains Brian Hogg, CAMS® Managing Director.

“When a person is detected, an alarm input is recorded on an alarm panel detailing the section of perimeter crossed and the time of the crossing. The second response is from one of the discreet cameras to focus on that particular section and record as well as transmit the camera pictures to an off-site professional monitoring station manned 24 hours a day.

“The operators at the monitoring station study the images, and can control the cameras to establish whether the visitor is welcome or a potential threat,” Brian continues. “Before a threat can become an insurance claim, the operators can warn the intruder via PA that they are being observed and that they should leave. If the threat persists the operator can notify the police and advise them of the type of crime taking place for their appropriate response.”

Specialist Cars are able to dial into the system at any time of the day or night and observe any part of the site.

In addition to the outer ring of Optex REDNET protection, there is an array of Optex REDWALL passive infrared detectors. These are used to continue the detection of visitors or intruders and enable the camera operators within the remote monitoring station to continue to observe their whereabouts.

“One of the advantages of choosing Optex products,” Brian adds, “is their high immunity to false alarms which is of paramount importance when alarm signals send pictures to the remote monitoring station for operator scrutiny.”

To support the REDNET and REDWALL detection devices, CAMS® is also using the new VX402 detectors from Optex Europe specifically to protect the MINI Cooper display. VX402 detectors have their own built-in voice announcements to enhance security in specific areas.

As Brian concludes: “We chose Optex Europe because of previous experience, and the continued reliability of its products. We were once again impressed with the partnership approach that the Optex engineers employed throughout the design, installation and commissioning stages of the project.”
