The Redesigned Redwell External Detection Device Excels in Performance

09 December 2008

Optex Europe, the leaders in detection technology have launched the Redwall V, a new and re-engineered version of its successful Redwall series of external detection devices.

The new Redwall V family from Optec Europe, features five integrated technologies that between them result in a detector that the manufacturers claims, is the undisputed best at delivering the highest capture rates and lowest false alarm rates of any detector ever made.

“Think of everything you could ever want out of a long-range external detector, and the Redwall V obliges,” says Nigel Hackett, Sales Director for Optex Europe’s Redwall division.

“In terms of performance, the five technologies fuse to deliver the best-in-class in any environment, at any range. In terms of security, the detector has a host of innovative features to overcome issues with masking or tampering. And in terms of installation, everything has been engineered to make the job as quick and efficient as possible, without sacrificing accuracy.”

The five technologies incorporated in each new unit include a Quad PIR; a thermo (ie temperature) sensor; light (illumination) sensor; active infrared (AIR) sensor; and Optex’s patented three-axis accelerometer that indicates which angle is best for detection by LED lights: “Redwall V is so intelligent that it is constantly analysing the outside conditions, and adjusting itself according to changes in temperature or light, for example to give optimum performance at all times,” Nigel adds.

A further benefit is its tamper evident features: “One of the big issues with these external detectors is that they can be tampered with,” Nigel continues. “The new Redwall V, however, has anti-vandal/anti sabotage features. If you knock it, it will go into alarm; if you stick a box over it, it will go into alarm. It is manufactured from reinforced polycarbonate, which means basically you cannot destroy it, even with a sledgehammer. Certain models also have an anti-creep detector – a short range sensor that prevents a very short range attack on the sensor from directly beneath the mounting.”

For the end-user, Optex Europe believes that Redwall V is years ahead of the competition, with a better outright performance than any other detector available. For an installer, it is also easier to set up. The detector is adjustable on two planes, and is calibrated to give the precise range for any given height. A four metre mounting height is standard.

“For the installer also,” Nigel says, “the detector utilises an ‘I-viewer’ with associated blanking plates, to enable them to effectively ‘frame’ the detection pattern, to block out areas that might cause issues with false alarms, for more accuracy with regards targeting, and to restrict zones for optimum performance.”

In terms of ranges, various models are available – a 30x20m, 40x10m and 40x4m. It also has a very long-range version to detect accurately up to 100 metres.
