An Extrordinary Garden Centre

10 October 2011

The World’s End Garden Centre in Wendover, Hampshire, part of The Garden Centre Group of horticultural facilities, is packed full of exotic and traditional annuals and perennials.

Additionally, the large site is home to a pet accessory store, an olde-worlde gift shop, a handmade wood furniture outlet, an aquatic centre, a conservatory emporium and, an impressive new restaurant.

The new restaurant, which replaces a smaller dining facility, increases the food offering from 70 covers up to seating for 200 diners.  Designed with a farmhouse theme with a warm and cosy oak finish throughout, the new restaurant is open seven days a week, between 7am and 6pm with an earlier finish on Sundays.

Serving fresh food daily is a team of 35, made up of full and part time chefs, cooks, and counter and waiting staff.  The team provides breakfast, lunches and snacks including: hot meal choices, salads, warming soups & rolls, as well as baked potatoes with various fillings, paninis, sandwiches and tea/coffee and cold drinks.

With the food and drinks service accounting for 25% of site sales, investment in quality design, product and finish was vital.  This is where The Carford Group, the catering equipment supplier of Ferndown, Dorset got involved.  Paul Gilhooly of The Carford Group was responsible for the overall kitchen and restaurant installation, and part of this included Victor Manufacturing supplying the working component sections for the foodservice counter.

Paul Gilhooly in consultation with Mike Inwood of Bradford-based manufacturer Victor agreed the company’s Synergy products best suited the garden centres requirements.

Installed within the foodservice counter at the Worlds End restaurant are a refrigerated deli display unit, two refrigerated Multi-tier display cabinets, two heated Bains Maries with carvery dish attachments, a roll under counter hot cupboard and a heated plate lowerator.

The refrigerated models will maintain core product temperatures of pre-chilled food below 5◦C in ambient temperatures up to 27◦C with 50% relative humidity, whilst the heated units deliver heat from below supplemented by quartz halogen heat lamps above.

Victor’s Synergy ‘drop-in’ heated and refrigerated units perfectly complement all counters and stand-alone units and clever engineering to reduce electricity usage helps save on running costs whilst reducing carbon footprint.

All Victor’s Synergy range of refrigerated and heated modules is available through distributors nationwide.
