How to Look After Lashes with Skin Caring jane iredale Products

17 November 2011

The growing, celebrity inspired trend to wear false eyelashes and even double layers can have damaging effects on your natural lashes say media reports this week.

Hair restoration surgeon Dr Bessam Farjo points out that the glue used to apply false lashes may cause irritation and simply the act of removing them can pull out your own hairs.  Fortunately, skin–friendly make-up brand jane iredale has some simple solutions to help big lash fans wear their look more comfortably and safely.

Emma Doherty, head UK make-up artist for the mineral based range has some tips, “Some people react to the latex in lash glues and frequent users often rub their eyes after removing their lashes. To minimise the risk of irritation, look for lashes that use latex-free glue, which is just as durable but gentle on the eyes.  And use a gently micro-fibre cloth to remove make-up with just warm water, instead of cleansing wipes or lotions that might upset already sensitive eyes.

“If you apply them correctly, false lashes are glued to the lash roots rather than the lid. This puts a lot of strain on them, the root support weakens and lashes fall out.  Rub a lash conditioner into your natural lash roots during the day, or use it as a night-time treatment when you take your false ones off.  This puts back the oils that glues and solvents can remove.

Emma’s final piece of advice: “When you remove false lashes remove them from the outside corner inwards while supporting the skin with your other hand.”
